Phlebotomy Program Information

Important Information to Know

Moraine Park’s Phlebotomy certificate runs two semester with the 4-credit Essentials course (513-100) in the first semester and the 2-credit Clinical course (513-101) in second semester.

While students have the option to “job out” after successful completion of the first semester, we strongly encourage students to complete both courses, earn the credential, and then take the national certification exam. This qualifies individuals as a “certified” phlebotomist which demonstrates the highest skill level.

As an admitted phlebotomy student, you are eligible to register in the upcoming Essentials course. However, campus location and timeframes are available on a first come, first served basis.

The second semester clinical portion is a full time commitment of 32-40 hours per week. Clinicals are offered in various environments including hospitals and clinics. Closer geographical location may not be possible.

State Licensure Disclosure: Moraine Park’s Phlebotomy Technician Certificate prepares students to obtain the required licensure to be employed/practice in the state of Wisconsin. The College does not guarantee its curriculum matches the requirements for preparation, examinations, or licensure for other states. Please click here to review more details about accreditation and licensure.  Upon completion of classroom and clinical training students are eligible for the National Registry Exam. You must have 100 venipunctures completed in order to register for this exam. The current cost for the registry exam is $135 and is paid for by the student.  Visit www.ascp.org for more information.

Important Note: Official proof of high school graduation or GED completion is required to take the exam.

Tools/Uniforms

Closed toed shoes are required for class.  In the clinical settings, you will need MPTC scrubs and a name tag. (These are additional costs students should anticipate.)

You will also need reliable transportation to drive to clinical sites.
