Love Conquers Hate: Documentary & Panel
February 29 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
An Afghan refugee comes face to face with a former U.S. Marine who has secret plans to bomb their mosque… until Mac McKinney’s plan takes an unexpected turn. Join us for a viewing of the powerful, 30-minute documentary “Stranger at the Gate.” Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai is Executive Producer for the documentary, which was an Academy Award Nominee for Best Documentary Short Film.
The viewing will be followed by a panel discussion with special guests:
Mac McKinney returned from the armed services filled with rage toward Muslims. He made a plan to blow up a mosque… then a trip to the mosque changed the course of his life, and McKinney eventually became the mosque President.
Chris Buckley served in the U.S. Army, then joined the KKK. An intervention by a former white power skinhead and a Kurdish refugee helped Buckley exit extremism. He now helps deradicalize people caught up in extremism and provides coping skills for veterans and police officers.
The event will be held in the MPTC’s FDL Campus Conference Center. Please use Parking Lot C and Door O2. The general public are welcome to attend, and parking is free. This event is hosted by MPTC Diversity Relations in collaboration with nonprofit We Are Many – United Against Hate.
