EMT Basic Program Information

Important Information to Know

EMT – Basic is a single course that runs for one semester. There are also clinical requirements that must be done outside of classroom hours. This combination prepares you to take the state exams to become a licensed EMT. There are two exams: written and practical/hands-on. If you have test anxiety, please share this with your advisor at your Program Meeting.

EMT – Basic may be offered at any/all MPTC campuses. However, the course rotates so it may not be at your preferred campus each semester.

EMT – Basic is NOT eligible for Financial Aid.

If your goal is to enter Moraine Park’s Advanced EMT or Paramedic program you will need to complete EMT-Basic first.

Tools/Uniforms

A uniform is required in the class and at clinical sites. This includes EMT pants (black or navy), black tactical boots, a black belt, a name tag and an EMT t-shirt.  The shirt will be purchased from a local vendor and the nametag will be available at Enrollment Services on each campus.

In addition, you will need:

  • iPad/laptop/tablet
  • A watch with sweeping second hand
  • Safety goggles
  • A stethoscope (Recommended but not required.)
