Important Information to Know
The Medical Office program is based out of the Fond du Lac campus with the option to take many courses at the Beaver Dam campus as well.
Core Information Session
Once you are registered for the Medical Office Practicum course, you are required to attend a core information session. (The Medical Office Practicum is a hands-on skills class held in a supervised clinical setting. It is taken in the second semester for full-time students or later for part-time students.)
This will be explained at your Program Advisor Meeting.
Tools/Uniforms
Business casual clothing is required for practicum. A name badge is required which is purchased in the MPTC bookstore.
Technical Standards & Abilities
Medical Office students must be able to complete certain activities. Below are some of the functional abilities. If you are concerned with your ability to meet these or want a full list of the functional abilities, it is important to talk with your advisor early. More information will be shared during the core information session, this includes acknowledgement that you are able to perform the activities.
- Sitting, standing and maintaining balance
- Gross and fine motor skills
- Ability to discuss and ask questions regarding patient care
- Work in an environment with potentially infectious materials, chemical substances and allergens
- Students must have sufficient critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Must exhibit positive interpersonal skills in all interactions
- Maintain confidentiality
Health and Other Requirements
Prior to practicum placement you must:
- Have your physical, immunizations, and drug screening test completed.
- Have your CPR certification for health care providers. If you don’t have it currently, you can take the training at Moraine Park. I will provide more details at your Program Advisor Meeting.
You have already completed your Background Information Disclosure (BID) but you may need to do a recheck in the future.
