Substance Use Disorder Counseling Program Information

Important Information to Know

The Substance Use Disorder Counseling program classes are offered in multiple formats including online, evening courses in Fond du Lac, and blended courses.  You will have to take courses in each of these three formats and cannot choose which format you prefer.

Two internships are required to graduate from this program, with a total of almost 500 service hours. These internships are generally taken in the last semester. Health requirements (like immunizations, flu shot, Covid vaccine and drug tests), clinic placement information, and other details are discussed with you at a special meeting held the semester before you start your internship.

While you are employable with the Associate’s degree, MPTC has transfer agreements to four-year colleges if you decide to further advance your education. Talk to your advisor if you want to learn more about these transfer opportunities.

Substance Use Disorder Counseling students must be able to complete certain activities. Below are some of the functional abilities. If you are concerned with your ability to meet these or want a full list of the functional abilities, it is important to talk with your advisor early.  More information will be shared during class, this includes acknowledgement that you are able to perform the activities.
