Students from Moraine Park Technical College brought home five medals from the Skills USA competition in Madison, WI, last month.
Nine Moraine Park students competed in four different categories: Industrial Motor Controls, Electrical Construction Wiring, CNC 2 Axis Turning Programmer and CNC 3 Axis Milling Programmer.
MPTC students John Fellenz, Cole Meyer, Zavery Depies and Otto Jung competed in the Industrial Motor Controls Competition. Fellenz took first, Meyer took second and Depies took third.
“The Skills USA competition gives the students an opportunity to showcase their skills and hard work,” Mark Wamsley, electricity instructor at Moraine Park, said. “The competition definitely adds a bit more pressure which is good as opposed to the common classroom setting. Ultimately only one can be ‘the best’, so those that are competitive push themselves in order to come out on top.”
Andy Dionne, Moraine Park CNC student, took first place in the CNC 2 Axis Turning Programmer competition, and MPTC student Dylan Urban took second in the CNC 3 Axis Milling Programmer competition.
“The students practice beforehand, but for us, mainly what we do in the classroom and instruction is what preps them,” Craig Seidel, CNC/Tool and die technologies instructor at Moraine Park, said.
Fellenz will travel to Atlanta to compete at the National Skills USA competition next month. Congratulations to all Moraine Park students who participated in the competition!
