Christian Palomera, an Automotive Technician student, is leveling up his career by earning his associate degree from Moraine Park this spring. After graduation, he will be promoted from lube technician to class-c auto technician at Summit Automotive Ford in Beaver Dam.
“I have always liked working on cars and taking things apart and putting them back together,” Palomera said. “There is always something new to learn, and no day is the same.”
Palomera has worked at Summit Automotive in Beaver Dam as a lube technician for 10 months. His promotion to class-c automotive technician grows his potential by allowing him to explore different kinds of work on the cars, including diagnosing and working as a mobile technician.
“As a mobile technician, I’ll go to the customers and address the issues they are having on-site,” he said. “Sometimes, for whatever reason, the customer can’t always come to us, so this promotion will allow me to use the mobile tech vehicle to work on the fly.”
Palomera began his program in Spring 2021. During his time at Moraine Park, he worked from 7-11 a.m. in Beaver Dam and attended class from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday on the Fond du Lac Campus.
“I really liked that there were students of all ages attending classes, it’s not just students right out of high school,” Palomera said. “I graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 2010, so I am 31 years old, and I wasn’t the oldest one in the class. It really motivated me and reinforced that it is never too late to get your education.”
Palomera will walk the stage as a first-generation college graduate this Saturday, May 18, at Moraine Park’s Spring Commencement Ceremony.
Congratulations, Christian!
