Moraine Park Presents Holy Family Warming Shelter with Community Partner Award

Moraine Park Technical College (MPTC) presented the Fond du Lac Holy Family Warming Shelter with its 2024 Community Partner Award. The award recognizes a community partner organization that has gone above and beyond in the role of working with Moraine Park students in community impact opportunities.

Moraine Park students, Max and Molly Atkinson, volunteered at the shelter during the 2023-24 school year, completing nearly 130 volunteer hours.

“I enjoy connecting with the other volunteers and have formed great friendships,” Max said. “I may be at the shelter for only once a week due to my schedule, but I enjoy it and look forward to my time there.”

Max and Molly plan to continue volunteering at the shelter this winter.

“This opportunity meant a lot to me, Molly said. “Being able to give back to my community by helping the warming shelter with whatever they need me to do allows me to connect with the guests. I’ve gotten to know some of them, and they are really great people, just in bad situations.”

The Holy Family Warming Shelter opened in Nov. 2023, providing a safe, compassionate space for up to 30 single adults experiencing homelessness during the winter months. Located centrally in Fond du Lac, the shelter served 164 individuals, distributing over 1,000 donated meals with the help of 159 volunteers from 32 local organizations.
