Moraine Park is proud to recognize another outstanding dual enrollment student, Kaydn Terlisner, a Beaver Dam High School senior.
Terlisner began exploring career options in the late spring of 2024 and ultimately chose the Gas Utility and Construction program at the College’s Beaver Dam Campus.
The Gas Utility and Construction Program trains students to install underground natural gas distribution systems, as well as residential and commercial natural gas service lines. Graduates will be equipped to follow OSHA safety procedures, service gas appliances, and install gas piping for both natural and propane gases. The program also provides hands-on experience in the physically demanding field of underground construction, preparing students for related careers in the construction industry. This technical diploma program operates on a non-traditional schedule, running from June to March. Recent graduates have reported a median salary of $79,185.
Terlisner had the option of beginning his college program in June of 2025 or jumpstarting his college education through dual enrollment by starting the summer before his senior year, in June of 2024.
“I thought I wanted [to be in] the Electrical Power Distribution program but there was a long wait list,” Terlisner, said. “ Then, I met a Gas Utility student from another high school and I started talking to my counselor about how to start college early.”
Terlisner enrolled in the Start College Now program and Moraine Park’s Concurrent Admissions, both dual enrollment opportunities at Moraine Park. He began the Gas Utility and Construction program this past summer. As a Start College Now student, he will complete his final semester of high school courses at his high school and then take a short walk over to Moraine Park’s Beaver Dam Campus to attend classes for his gas utility coursework.
“Kaydn has done very well in his first two semesters in the College’s Gas Utility & Construction program,” Steve Logan, Moraine Park’s gas utility instructor, said. “Although younger than the rest of the students, he fits right in and is one of the first students to take on a task when assigned.”
Because of his efforts, Terlisner is scheduled to complete his technical diploma in March of 2025- which will ultimately make him a college graduate before finishing high school.
“I enjoy the flexibility with my school schedule allowing me to work part-time and having spare time to enjoy my senior year of high school, “ Terlisner said.
After graduation, Terlisner hopes to secure a welding-focused role in the gas utility field.
Moraine Park’s dual enrollment courses offer endless opportunities to hundreds of district students each year, resulting in early 2.1 million dollars in educational savings for our students. For more information about dual enrollment, visit morainepark.edu/k12-resources.
