Compassion and the innate desire to care for others is something many nursing students have in common, and for as long as Morgan Diels can remember, she has dreamed of becoming a nurse.
As she went through school and began considering her career more seriously, her passion for the profession only intensified.
“As I got older, I grew to love babies and children,” Diels said. “I began babysitting when I was 12 and gained a deeper understanding of how to deal with children. As the oldest in my family, I’ve naturally looked after my younger siblings. Because of these experiences, I realized that I wanted to become a Labor and Delivery nurse and bring new life into the world.”
Diels kick-started her career while still in high school by earning her CNA (certified nursing assistant) through Moraine Park. She graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 2021 and enrolled in Moraine Park’s Nursing program. She will graduate with her associate degree in 2024.
After graduating from Moraine Park, Diels plans to pursue her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing.
“Nursing is a highly demanding career that brings new challenges everyday, but it comes with a real sense of job satisfaction,” Diels said. “Helping people in need has a positive impact on their lives but also the community as a whole, which is equally rewarding.”
Diels is an active member on Moraine Park’s campus. She is involved in Student Senate, the Student Nurses Association and is the Treasurer for the Donut Club, a community service organization.
In addition to her rigorous course load and campus involvement, Diels’ grades have earned her membership in the Moraine Park Academic Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa–an internationally recognized honor society for two-year colleges. Through her membership, she is able to develop leadership skills, engage in community and college service opportunities and network with other scholars.
Outside of school, she works as a CNA at Clearview Nursing Home in Juneau.
“I want to be able to take on the responsibility of paying for college myself without burdening my parents with additional debt since as I am the oldest of three children,” Diels said. “Because of this, I’ve been proactive about earning and saving my own money so that I am financially ready to take on paying for my own tuition. Scholarships allow me to spend more time focusing on studying, graduating, and achieving my goals.”
