Four Six Sigma Green Belt participants spent several months improving their problem-solving skills in an effort to help their organizations cut operating costs through enhanced efficiency and waste reduction.
The participants earned Green Belt certifications after successfully completing the training program at Moraine Park and presenting final workplace projects in May.
Participants were Thomas Amend and Cody Harris, Alliance Laundry Systems; Damien Feucht, Kondex Corporation; and Matthew Hegner, Amerequip Corporation.
Each participant chose a project that, when complete, would positively impact their company’s bottom line. Projects included:
- Reducing product component defects that caused rework and increased scrap.
- Improving a new heat treat process to bring more products into needed specifications.
- Minimizing product component defects that caused significant downtime and increased scrap.
- Improving time to delivery and lowering labor costs by increasing welding efficiency.
Collectively, participants’ projects averaged more than $55,000 in annual cost savings.
“One of the biggest reasons this class was so beneficial for me is that we were able to cover a large array of topics and tools that will assist with current and future projects in my role as an industrial process engineer,” Feucht said. “This class provides a perfect mix of hands-on, lab work and classroom time. This gives a real feel of working through actual problems and challenges that we face in our professions.”
MPTC will offer its next Six Sigma Green Belt Certification training beginning August 28, 2024. Classes will be held twice a month, with project presentations scheduled for December 12, 2024. The deadline to register is August 9, 2024. MPTC plans to offer a Black Belt Program in spring 2025 for those who have completed Green Belt Certification.
