Earlier this month, Moraine Park Cosmetology students used their skills to partner with The Arc’s annual Fashion Show for All, hosted at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Fond du Lac. The students provided hair, makeup and nail services to the models before the fashion show at the College’s Techniques Salon and Spa.
“This partnership opportunity was an amazing example of how employees and students of the College can work collaboratively to put in motion MPTC’s mission of growing minds, businesses and communities through innovative learning experiences while creating awareness of a local not-for-profit organization, the ARC of Fond du Lac, and the intellectual and developmental disability community,” Jacki Warner, associate director of human resources at Moraine Park and board member of The Arc of Fond du Lac, said.
The Arc is a human service organization empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to become independent and integrated into the community through advocacy, education, training and support. Their annual Fashion Show for All features models of all ages with developmental disabilities. The fashion show showcased styles from local businesses, and the proceeds support The Arc’s services for people with IDD in Fond du Lac County and surrounding areas.
The 2023 fashion show raised around $10,000, and the proceeds will be used to help pay for community integration and community outings for clients, transportation needs, work, leisure, medical appointments and program supplies.
“This year, some of our participants had the pleasure of getting their hair, nails, and makeup done by MPTC’s cosmetology students,” Dawn Scannell, executive director at The Arc Fond du Lac, said. “The participants just loved being able to get pampered on such a special occasion, and couldn’t stop talking about it in their dressing rooms at the time of the show! Thank you MPTC Cosmetology for helping us out with our special fundraiser!”
The cosmetology students involved included Evelyn Nery, Keira Quinn, Sophia Schatz, Larsen Anderson, Ericka Beistle, Ava Heise and Sam Shafer.
“I decided to participate in this event because I thought it would be fun, and it was!” Ava Heise, Moraine Park Cosmetology program student, said. “I did hair and makeup for one of the fashion show participants, and my favorite part was seeing how happy she was when we were all finished.”
