U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin visited Moraine Park’s West Bend Campus Wednesday, April 5, 2023, for a roundtable with students and local healthcare and manufacturing leaders. The group discussed the need to invest in workforce development programs to address the skilled worker shortage and connect more Wisconsinites with good-paying jobs in manufacturing and health care.
The roundtable participants included representatives from Moraine Park, Milwaukee Tool, Kreilkamp Trucking, Signicast, Regal Ware, Kettle Moraine Metal Products, Elevate, Froedtert, Aurora, Cedar Community, the City of West Bend and Washington County.
“Everybody talked about how early the seed needs to be planted, and those opportunities to expand individual credit programs to plant the seed and the spark of working in manufacturing, working in health care and working to build and rebuild our state,” Baldwin said. “The younger that starts and the more encouraged they are by parents, the better off we will be.”
Moraine Park student speakers included Adelina Korcari and Marissa Koerber for nursing; and Andrew Dionne, Dylan Urban and Bridget Kiefer for manufacturing.
Korcari, a nursing student at Moraine Park, spoke about her decision to become a nurse and how she will graduate with her associate degree at just 19 years old.
“When I was approached to participate in the roundtable I was really nervous,” Korcari said. “But I felt it was important for me to share my story and I am glad I was given the opportunity to speak about my life and my experience at Moraine Park with Senator Baldwin.”
